Papermaking Workshop Ferbane

Ferbane Bridge Centre hosted our Introduction to Handmade Paper Making workshop on the 17th of May 2023. This hands-on experience allowed participants to explore traditional and contemporary techniques for crafting beautiful papers from natural plant fibers and a range of recycled materials.

The highlight of the workshop was the chance for participants to put theory into practice, as they crafted their own handmade papers and paper objects under the guidance of the experienced instructor. Whether novices or experienced artists, attendees were able to hone their skills and produce beautiful papers that showcased their newfound talent.

Expertly led by Lisa Dooley from The Factory in Birr, participants had the opportunity to learn about the history and Irish heritage of this art form, as well as gain a deeper understanding of the materials and methods used in the process. From pulp making to sheet forming, 3D molding, inclusions, and decorative techniques, attendees were presented with a comprehensive overview of the paper-making process.

This workshop was made possible through Legacy Traditional Skills programme which was developed by Offaly Local Development Company, and funded through the LEADER Rural Development Programme. Paper making workshops also took place in Mountbolus, Bracknagh & Moneygall as part of Legacy’s traditional skills programme.
