Tutor: Annette Leeman
Chair Upholstery Edenderry
On June 10th, we hosted an inspiring chair upholstery workshop, providing attendees with a fascinating glimpse into the traditional skill of upholstery – an art form and traditional skill that is becoming endangered.
Led by the patient and knowledgeable Annette Leeman, participants were guided through the entire process, offering them valuable insight into the different types of fabrics, the law about flame retardant fabrics, tensioning and fixing techniques, finishing touches, various trims, and refinishing legs with paint or stain. By the end of the workshop, participants had created beautifully finished upholstered chairs.
During the workshop, participants had the opportunity to explore the intricacies of upholstery, from cutting pattern pieces to tensioning and fixing fabric, and using studs to finish the back. The workshop supplied a chair and fabric, allowing attendees to take a deep dive into the art of upholstery.
This workshop was made possible through Legacy Traditional Skills programme which was developed by Offaly Local Development Company, and funded through the LEADER Rural Development Programme. Upholstery workshops also took place in Banagher & Edenderry as part of Legacy’s traditional skills programme.
